Nationwide — Mia Bieniemy, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs coach Eric Bieniemy, called 911 after her son allegedly shot her during a domestic disturbance at their home. She suffered gunshot wounds to her chest and arm, but was later reported to be in stable condition.
Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman said Mia was the person who contacted authorities and requested emergency assistance after she was allegedly shot multiple times. Officials later confirmed that her son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy, was taken into custody.
According to the New York Post, Chapman did not name the people involved during his interview but said the shooting involved a mother and her son. “She had called in – the mother, who we know – had called in the shooting, and it was involving the son, so that’s where we’re at right now,” he said.
Eric Bieniemy was with his wife at the hospital after the shooting. He had been away at Kansas City Chiefs training camp in Missouri when the incident happened.
Elijah is being held without bond and faces three felony charges: malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling.
Authorities said they are still investigating what led to the alleged shooting. Chapman added that investigators are working to determine where everyone was during the incident, what happened before the shooting, and what caused the confrontation.
“We have to go through an entire investigation to find out exactly where everybody was, what everybody did, what prompted it, how it all transpired, but we’re investigating right now,” Chapman said.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue gathering information about the incident.
