Nationwide — Michael Babalola, a 24-year-old man from London, has been sentenced to 2 years and 8 months for drug-related offenses after a police raid on his brother’s home. Although he was not initially connected to the case, he was arrested a year later after his selfies linked him to the crime. On May 19, 2023, police raided the home of Michael’s brother, Olusegun Babalola, on Whitsed Street, Eastfield, as part of an operation targeting drug dealing and exploitation in the area, according to the Cambridgeshire Constabulary.
During the raid, officers found over £7,000 worth of heroin and crack cocaine hidden in a tissue box on the kitchen counter. Other drug-related items, including scales, phones, and designer clothes, were also discovered.
Both brothers were arrested at the scene. Olusegun, who was asleep on the sofa, was charged and later sentenced to 8 years in prison. Michael, who was found in the bedroom, was initially released under investigation due to a lack of direct evidence tying him to the drugs.
However, further analysis of Michael’s phone revealed significant evidence of criminal activity. Messages and photos confirmed his involvement in cannabis supply and possession of substantial criminal funds, including cash, luxury clothing, jewelry, and Rolex watches.
On December 13, 2024, Michael pleaded guilty to drug supply and possession of criminal property. Authorities have also scheduled a Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) next year.
Detective Constable Olly Campbell, who led the investigation, said, “As a result of our investigation into his brother — who is now serving an eight-year prison sentence — we uncovered Michael’s criminality.”
