Nationwide — Forbes Magazine is calling 52-year old Michael Jordan the most famous new billionaire out of the 290 newcomers to the Forbes billionaires list. The former NBA basketball champion is estimated to have a worth at an even $1 billion thanks to his share of ownership in the Charlotte Hornets.He is now the 513th most wealthiest man in the world.
His Jordan brand of shoes and apparel reportedly grossed an estimated $2.25 billion in 2013, and his stake in the Charlotte Hornets is worth more than $500 million. Even more, an upcoming NBA deal with ESPN and Turner Broadcasting will amount to an extra $57 million for the Hornets.
Of the new billionaires, 71 are from China, and 57 are from the U.S. including Jordan.
Other notables on the list include Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer, who recently purchased the Los Angeles Clippers. He actually tops the list of sports-related billionaires with a net worth of more than $21 billion.
Also, Seattle Seahawks owner Paul Allen is on the list worth an estimated $17.5 billion, along with Houston Rockets owner Leslie Alexander’s net at $1.6 billion and Chicago Bulls’ owner Jerry Reinsdorf at a worth of $1.3 billion.
