Nationwide — Michelle Montgomery, a 39-year-old African American mother of 4 from Brooklyn, New York, was found dismembered in a trash bag in her apartment building’s basement. Police are investigating, but no arrests have been made, leaving her family desperate for answers.
Her remains were discovered on Sunday, February 1, after NYPD officers responded to a report of “an unconscious person” at a Brooklyn public housing complex. Officials found Montgomery’s dismembered body inside a trash compactor in the building’s basement.
Her husband, Anthony Echevarria, said Michelle had seemed happy the night before. She left their home Saturday evening in high spirits to meet friends. “She left this house vibrant, happy, and alive,” he said, according to People.
Montgomery’s sister, Serenity, recalled a short FaceTime call from her around 10 p.m., with music playing in the background. The call lasted just one second, leaving Serenity unsure if Michelle had intended to connect. Shortly afterward, Michelle shared a social media video showing her dancing with friends.
The family remains in shock as police continue their investigation. No arrests have been made, and authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward. “We will get justice,” Echevarria said, “I promise that.”
Michelle leaves behind four children, aged 19, 12, 11, and 10 months. Friends, neighbors, and loved ones are struggling to process the tragedy while investigators work to identify the person responsible.
