Nationwide — Michelle Sadio, a 46-year-old Black woman, was tragically killed in a triple shooting outside a church in London, England on Saturday night. Two men, both in their 30s, were also injured in the attack. The shooting happened as mourners were attending a wake at the River of Life Elim Pentecostal Church, according to The Independent. Pastor Lawrence Larbie, who leads the church, described the scene as “pandemonium” when people ran into the church, saying, “There’s been a shooting, there’s been a shooting.”
Gunshots were reportedly fired from a passing car at people attending the wake.
“It’s shocking. We are really devastated. You are invited to attend the wake and you end up deceased. You’re killed. You’re gone. Your life is expired just like that,” Larbie said.
Locals reported hearing “crying and screaming” and seeing bodies on the ground. One neighbor thought the gunshots were fireworks at first. Another described the incident as “crazy” and “scary,” adding that they’d never heard anything like it in the area before.
While formal identification is still pending, they believe the woman who died is Michelle Sadio. One of the injured men is in critical condition, while the other’s injuries are not life-threatening.
Officers continue to investigate, but no arrests have been made. Roads remain closed as investigations continue.
“This is a truly shocking incident,” said Superintendent Tony Josephs, from the North West Command Unit. “I want to reassure people that a team of experienced detectives are already working at pace to piece together the events of last night and identify whoever was responsible for this heinous act of violence.”
