Nationwide — Monyuett Hinson, a woman from Bessemer, Alabama, who attacked a 76-year-old man with a space heater, pleaded guilty to felony murder. She now faces up to 24 years in prison for the 2021 killing.
Hinson attacked Alverner Blanks in his home on September 8, 2021. Blanks suffered serious injuries and died sixteen days later. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office ruled his death a homicide, according to WLBT.
At the time of the attack, Hinson was out on bond for attempted murder and robbery charges connected to Blanks. Police said she carried out the assault while already facing serious legal issues.
Hinson was first charged with capital murder in November 2021. In February, she agreed to a plea deal, pleading guilty to felony murder, which lowered her potential sentence.
Court records show she now faces up to 24 years in prison. Prosecutors said the plea ends the case without a lengthy trial, bringing closure to the matter.
