Nationwide — In his new children’s book, Little Bear Sam from Greeley Square in New York, Neil Williams is on a mission at age 63 to encourage and inspire children to read, achieve, swim, and to believe in themselves everyday. He comments, “Bears have the ability to survive and thrive. This story with illustrations is my way to make a positive difference in the lives of children, and particularly Black children everywhere.”

Williams was a student leader in the 80s. His leadership along with then President Robert Dickeson, and the UNC Board of Trustees’ decision to adopt the UNC “Commitment to Diversity” in 1982. He is also a founding member of the Marcus Garvey Cultural Center.
