2-Month-Old Baby Dies After Drinking Alcohol From Bottle, Mom Charged with Murder

Nationwide — Omayrilin Colon, a 37-year-old African American mother from Atlanta, Georgia, is charged with murder after giving her 2-month-old son a bottle containing alcohol, killing him. Toxicology tests confirmed deadly levels in the infant’s blood.

Atlanta police responded to an apartment on Perry Boulevard in October after reports of an unresponsive infant. Paramedics rushed the baby to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

According to WSB-TV, investigators found no visible signs of trauma, prompting an autopsy and toxicology testing. The results revealed a blood-alcohol concentration of .179, more than twice the legal limit for an adult. Doctors confirmed the alcohol came from a bottle the baby drank, not through breast milk.

Police said Colon admitted to preparing the bottle. Evidence suggests she intentionally put alcohol in it, causing alcohol poisoning that led to the baby’s death. Authorities are treating the case as deliberate based on toxicology results and the circumstances surrounding the bottle.

At bond court Friday, Colon waived her first appearance, and the judge denied her bond. A public defender representing Colon declined to comment. Investigators continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.
