Atlanta, GA — Orrin Hudson runs a nationwide non-profit organization called Be Someone that teaches urban youth how to make better decisions in life to get better results. His first partnership for his newest initiative is with the DeKalb County Police East Precinct in the metro Atlanta, Georgia area.On July 2nd from 10am to 12noon, Hudson will host a Youth Summer Chess Initiative in Lithonia, Georgia at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. The program’s goals are to break the cycle of crime, violence, and poverty by changing the game and promoting peace in the community. This free public event is open to all youth grades K-12, but community leaders and local police officers will also be attendance to share powerful and priceless knowledge, advice, and insight.
Be Someone was founded in Atlanta in 2001 by Mr. Hudson, who credits the game of chess of teaching him important life skills that put him on a path to success growing up. Mr. Hudson now uses chess to promote self-esteem and analytical thinking in at-risk youth, while teaching them honesty, responsibility and patience. Mr. Hudson, who has been featured on CNN, Good Morning America, and in People Magazine, has touched the lives of more than 50,000 kids through his program.
Hudson comments, “This is a recipe for defeat. Via motivational speaking and the game of chess, we are teaching young people to not play the blame game, but instead to take responsibility for your own moves.” He continues, “My message is simple: Make every move your best move. Sitting is for losers. You must make a move to win!”
