Nationwide — Former NBA guard Patrick Beverley was arrested Friday in Texas on a third-degree felony assault charge, according to court records reviewed by outlets including KRIV-TV in Houston and TMZ.
Beverley, 37, was taken into custody in Fort Bend County, just outside Houston. He is accused of assault on a family or household member “impeding breath or circulation,” a serious charge under Texas law.
TMZ reports that Beverley has posted a $40,000 bond and is expected to be released shortly.
In a statement to Sports Illustrated, Beverley’s attorney, Letitia Quinones-Hollins, defended her client and described the circumstances leading up to the arrest. “Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister — a young lady, a minor,” she said. “Given that, when he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be. However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described, and we look forward to addressing that in court.”
Beverley, known for his aggressive defensive style and fiery on-court energy, spent 12 seasons in the NBA across seven teams. His most recent stint came with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2024 — a season that ended in controversy when he threw a basketball at fans and received a four-game suspension.
Before that, he made his name with the Houston Rockets from 2013 to 2017, where he became one of the league’s most recognizable defensive specialists. His Rockets tenure ended when he was dealt to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for point guard Chris Paul.
The Arkansas native also built a long international résumé before solidifying his NBA career, playing professionally in Ukraine, Greece, Russia, and Israel. More recently, he has remained in the public eye through his own podcast and frequent appearances in sports media.
