Nationwide — Robert Landers, a high school teacher from Rankin County, Mississippi, was arrested after authorities discovered large amounts of marijuana and methamphetamine at his home, linking him to a drug trafficking operation.
On Monday, deputies from Rankin County, investigators from the Madison Police Department, and U.S. Postal Service agents executed a search at Landers’ home on Mt. Helm Road. They recovered roughly 13 pounds of marijuana and about 7 pounds of methamphetamine, according to WLBT.
Landers teaches health at Murrah High School in Jackson and also works as an assistant football coach. Authorities say he was involved in a conspiracy to possess and distribute controlled substances, which came to light during an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.
Officials found the marijuana divided into 13 one-pound bags and a gray, paste-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. All items were sent to the state crime lab for further testing to confirm the results.
After the search, Landers was arrested and booked into the Rankin County Jail on two counts of conspiracy to traffic a controlled substance. No bond has been set, and the investigation into his activities is still ongoing.
The arrest has drawn attention in the community because of Landers’ role as a teacher and coach, raising concerns about trust and responsibility in local schools. Authorities continue to investigate the full scope of the alleged operation.
