Nationwide — Roseli Fernandes de Oliveira Romeiro Vieira, a Brazilian content creator and makeup artist, has died after a cosmetic buttock augmentation procedure in São Paulo. She had reportedly spent more than $10,000 on PMMA injections before suffering severe complications within 24 hours.
According to People, Fernandes was pronounced dead on May 26 after arriving unconscious at her doctor’s clinic. Authorities said she had recently undergone a buttock enhancement procedure using polymethylmethacrylate, or PMMA, and are now treating the case as suspicious while also considering it an accidental death.
Police said Fernandes started experiencing intense pain on the morning of May 26, less than a day after the procedure. Her daughter told investigators she contacted the doctor for help and was instructed to return to the clinic where the treatment took place. Fernandes lost consciousness during a ride-share trip to the facility.
Surveillance footage showed Fernandes being pulled from a car outside the clinic while unresponsive. Staff placed her in a wheelchair and brought her inside. Several people attempted to assist her, but she did not react, and someone inside the clinic made a phone call for help.
Reports said the procedure involved PMMA injections administered by doctor Tábita Nunes Marcolino Jorge. Authorities noted she does not hold a dermatology residency. Brazil’s health regulator allows PMMA only for restorative medical treatments, not for cosmetic enhancement.
Metrópoles reported that Fernandes paid more than 54,000 Brazilian reais, or over $10,000, for the procedures shortly before her condition rapidly declined.
The doctor’s attorney said there is no confirmed link between the procedure and Fernandes’ death. The statement added that the doctor cooperated with police, submitted documents, and expressed condolences while the investigation continues.
Fernandes built a following online as a makeup artist, with over 100,000 followers across social media platforms. She regularly shared beauty-related content and had a smaller following of over a thousand on Facebook.
