Nationwide — Sa’Moryia Farley, a 7-year-old girl from Saint Paul, Minnesota, is slowly waking up from a coma after being hit by a driver. Her family says the signs of recovery bring hope after days of fear and uncertainty.
The crash happened while Sa’Moryia was walking to a nearby store with her brother and cousin. She was struck near the intersection of White Bear Avenue and 5th Street. The impact left her with serious spinal and brain injuries.
She was rushed to Regions Hospital, where doctors placed her in a coma and later performed surgery. Her condition remained critical for more than a week.
Now, Sa’Moryia is beginning to open her eyes. Her family calls it a miracle. “I was speechless a little but, I’m grateful,” her mother, Shamika Stroud, told 11Alive. “I’m grateful.”
“She looks like herself now. She’s opening her eyes, praise God. It’s a miracle,” her great-grandmother, Cathy Stroud-Caldwell, said. “It made everybody in the family realize life is precious. That is the best gift in the world.”
According to police, the driver involved in the crash stayed at the scene, showed no signs of impairment, and was released. The investigation is ongoing, but the family says they still haven’t received clear answers.
Despite the uncertainty, their focus remains on Sa’Moryia’s healing. “The storm is over but we’re still on a journey,” Stroud-Caldwell said.
Moreover, the family is asking for continued prayers and support. They have also set up a GoFundMe to help with medical expenses. It has so far raised nearly $11,000.
