Nationwide — Serena Williams recently addressed rumors about her bleaching her skin, firmly denying the claims. During an Instagram Live session, the 23-time Grand Slam winner called out the “haters” who spread the false story. The rumors began after Williams posted a video from a recent school event with her family, where she appeared with lighter skin, according to TMZ.
Williams shut down the rumors in an Instagram Live session while doing a makeup tutorial for her beauty brand, Wyn Beauty.
“And then I put just that neutral color, that is actually my skin color,” Williams said while applying makeup. “And no, for you haters out there, I do not bleach my skin.”
Williams then shared that she was wearing stage makeup for her daughter’s play, which contributed to the appearance of a different complexion in the video.
“There is a thing called sunlight and in that sunlight you get different colors,” she added. “Yes, I’m calling you out on this because it is ridiculous.”
Williams, who is now 43 years old, also emphasized that while she has no problem with people choosing to lighten their skin, it’s just not something she would do.
“I am a dark Black woman, and I love who I am, and love how I look.”
