Nationwide — Sha’nya Bennett, an African American mother from Alabama, gave birth to her son in a Krispy Kreme parking lot after a rare snowstorm made it impossible to reach the hospital.Bennett and her partner, Keon Mitchell, tried to reach Flowers Hospital when Bennett started having contractions, according to WTVY. However, the storm, which dumped five inches of snow in southern Alabama, caused icy roads and made travel difficult.
About a mile from the hospital, Bennett’s contractions worsened. Mitchell pulled into a Krispy Kreme parking lot to call 911. But before paramedics could arrive, Bennett gave birth to her son in the car.
“I felt like superwoman,” Bennett said of the experience.
Though nervous, Mitchell helped her deliver the baby. He said, “I really don’t know how I stayed calm because I was really scared.”
Bennett and her baby, Dallas, are now recovering and looking forward to going home.
After hearing the story, the Krispy Kreme manager offered the family free donuts for a year and promised to host Dallas’ first birthday party in 2026.
