Nationwide — Dr. Shawanda S. Moore, known as The Tax Docta, proudly celebrates her 17th year of dedicated community service. Having overcome homelessness and the challenges of living on a fixed income, she intimately understands the struggles of affording a traditional Thanksgiving meal or buying holiday gifts for her children. Grateful for the support she received from local organizations, Dr. Moore deeply respects their missions. Motivated by a desire to give back, she fervently prayed for the opportunity to help others, and today, that dream shines brightly. In 2019, she founded her non-profit organization, Royal Outreach Non-Profit, and is now leveraging it to further her impactful community service projects
Over 17 years, she has provided invaluable support through school uniform and utility assistance, back-to-school drives, and scholarships for middle and high school graduates. In the past four years, Dr. Moore has expanded her impact through her most significant initiative, focused on Thanksgiving and Christmas outreach, alongside local business owners like Rysean Parson of Harmony’s Pizza, Benjamas Butler of ThaiNola Restaurant, Marques Coleman of M5 Services, Dr. Gabrielle Clark of Brand New Feet, Shante Williams of MKD Bounce, and Malika Batiste of Bleu Multi Services. This collective effort has resulted in over 200 full Thanksgiving baskets for those in need.
This year, Mr. David Hudson Jr., president of the David Hudson Sr. Foundation and a celebrated “Home Town Hero,” has joined forces with Dr. Moore to amplify her mission. He is renowned for fostering small business growth and creating opportunities for youth through meaningful connections and resources. David Hudson Sr. seeks to engage influential figures in New Orleans to participate in the event through donations and support, believing that youth deserve to be honored and inspired by their community leaders.
The annual event is a four-hour celebration open to the public, serving over 500 children ages 0 to 12. With an array of food, drinks, prizes, toy giveaways, bike raffles, games, celebrity guests, performances, music, and toddler stations, this event embodies the spirit of giving. Dr. Moore’s team even creates large-scale financial literacy games, ensuring the event is educational and entertaining. This year, Dr. Moore will autograph 100 copies of her children’s financial literacy story sharing the gift of knowledge and inspiration with the next generation.
Dr. Moore’s fiancé, Marc Coleman, inspires her to continue hosting events that reflect her true spirit. He admires her unwavering commitment to helping others and the exceptional effort she invests in her event setups and presentations. Marc actively supports her by spreading the word, building games, transporting materials, and setting up and breaking down after each event. This is his second year involved with Dr. Moore’s events, and he cherishes the joy he sees on the recipients’ faces. He takes great pride in the meaningful work she accomplishes in the community.
The 17th annual event, hosted by Royal Outreach and the David Hudson Sr. Foundation, receives first-year donations from Carlanda Issac (Life is Growth) and support from other small business owners. Set to take place in New Orleans on Sunday, January 21st, this event promises to uplift those in need.
Dr. Moore envisions collaborating with more organizations to extend her reach and support even more individuals in her community. She is dedicated to addressing the challenges of mental health, substance abuse, homelessness, unemployment, disabilities, incarceration, and other issues that impact both adults and their children.
