Nationwide — It’s a kid’s marching band (with real toy instruments) started by Stephanie Singleton, the author of The Adventures of Ryan & Riley and Mr. Teddy Bear, and the organizer of The Adventures of Ryan & Riley Children’s Marching Band, for kids ages 5 to 10 years.
Since the release of her book in 2014, available on Amazon, Singleton has transformed the narrative into a vibrant mentoring platform and nonprofit organization.
“I wanted to give kids a safe place, just to have fun and to explore their imagination,” said Singleton.
Eleven years later, she has successfully brought the story to life, providing children with a pathway to imagine, socialize, and develop essential life skills through music.
Founded on the story book’s principles of obedience, respect, and responsibility, the children’s band utilizes real toy instruments, which allows them to march to the beat of their own drum. Literally!
Research from PBS indicates that children aged 3 to 5 begin to develop their identities, underscoring the importance of socialization at a young age.
Singleton explains, “Although socialization is important at any age, getting children involved and active early may help prevent shyness and other insecurity issues.”
The American Psychological Association supports this, noting that early engagement can help children build relationships and form friendships.
“Our toy marching band not only encourages musical exploration but also serves as a powerful tool for building self-confidence. When the parade or event begins, these kids step into the spotlight—it’s lights, camera, action. They are on track to achieve greatness,” Singleton remarked.
The Adventures of Ryan & Riley Children’s Marching Band has already made waves in the local community, performing in several Ohio parades this year, including the prestigious Canton Pro Football Hall of Fame Enrichment Parade. (See video)
And on September 27th, 2025, they are getting ready to perform alongside the Firestone High School Marching Band during a halftime football game.
