Stephen A. Smith Defends Snoop and Nelly’s Performances at Trump’s Inauguration

Nationwide — Stephen A. Smith is speaking out in defense of rappers like Snoop Dogg, Nelly, and Soulja Boy who performed at events surrounding Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration. Smith said he doesn’t understand the backlash they are receiving for making a living.

During a recent episode of his YouTube show, Smith asked tough questions about the criticism, according to Billboard. He said, “What if this person voted for him because they’re broke and they think he can put some more money in their pocket?”

Smith specifically defended Soulja Boy, saying he has the right to make money. “Soulja Boy ain’t got no right to make some money?” Smith asked. He also noted that Soulja Boy earned a significant amount of money from his performance, something that takes most people a year to earn.

Smith also came to Snoop Dogg’s defense, pointing out that he performed at the Crypto Ball, not directly for Trump. Snoop has a long-standing relationship with David Sacks, Trump’s Crypto and A.I. czar, who has supported Snoop’s football league and other ventures.

As for Nelly, Smith claimed he’s not into politics and performs for those who pay the right fee. Meanwhile, Nelly recently defended his decision, saying that he performed as a matter of respect for the office, not for financial gain.
