Nationwide — Stevie Wonder is celebrating the 50th anniversary of his classic album “Songs in the Key of Life” with a worldwide tour. The 25-time Grammy winner will perform the 1976 double album in its entirety during the “Songs in the Key of Life Performances – 50th Anniversary Tour.” The tour will take him across the UK, Europe, and the United States.
According to Variety, the tour is scheduled to open Oct. 13 at Utilita Arena Birmingham in Birmingham, England. From there, the singer will travel across Europe for performances in Paris, Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Hannover, Cologne, Amsterdam and Dublin. The European dates will give fans in several major cities a chance to hear the full album performed live as Wonder marks five decades since its release.
After the European shows, the tour will return to the UK for concerts in London, Manchester and Glasgow. The schedule then moves to the United States, where the North American leg will begin Nov. 19 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Additional performances are planned for Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Detroit.
The tour will conclude Dec. 19 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. Live Nation is promoting the tour, while Wonder Productions is handling its production. Across the scheduled dates, the performances will focus on “Songs in the Key of Life,” allowing the album to be presented as a complete work rather than only through its best-known singles.
Released in 1976, the album “Songs in the Key of Life” became one of the biggest releases of Wonder’s career. It featured several enduring hits, including “Sir Duke,” “Isn’t She Lovely,” and “I Wish.” The album also earned him his third Grammy Award for Album of the Year, completing a run of three wins in the category during his career.
The album later reached Diamond status after selling more than 10 million copies. It was also selected for preservation in the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry, recognizing its cultural and historical importance. With the 50th anniversary tour, Wonder will revisit the album more than four decades after its original release while taking the complete project to audiences in multiple countries.
