Prosecutors Say 3-Year-Old Black Boy Dropped Off at Hospital Died From Abuse and Starvation

Nationwide — Sunshyne Davis, a 25-year-old mother from Brooklyn, and her boyfriend, Robert White, 39, face murder charges after the death of her 3-year-old son. Authorities say they brought the child to a Brooklyn hospital already unresponsive. The case has raised serious allegations of long-term abuse and neglect.

According to People, the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office said Davis and White arrived at a Brooklyn hospital on March 9, 2025, carrying 3-year-old Kyng Davis. Staff quickly realized the child showed no signs of life, and the situation escalated as medical personnel stepped in.

A hospital employee later said, “I heard that some lady [was] bringing in a baby, lifeless.” When staff tried to ask what happened, she walked away and left the building with White, who had a car waiting outside.

After briefly interacting with hospital staff, the pair allegedly left the hospital without providing clear information about the child’s condition. They then drove off, leaving Kyng behind as staff attempted emergency response efforts.

A medical examiner later determined that Kyng Davis died from child abuse. Prosecutors cited blunt force injuries, along with starvation, dehydration, and prolonged neglect, as contributing factors in the child’s death.

Investigators also said Davis and White were living in White’s vehicle at the time, which they believe reflects the unstable environment surrounding the child before his death.

Authorities later charged both with second-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter, and endangering the welfare of a child. Court records show White also previously faced an assault allegation involving claims he struck the child in the face multiple times.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said the child “suffered day after day,” adding that the defendants failed to provide even basic care. The case remains ongoing, and officials have not confirmed whether either defendant has entered a plea or secured legal counsel.
