Nationwide — A white woman, identified as Tara Lynn Belcher, was caught on camera spitting on a Black man during a confrontation in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, in 2015. Cellphone video later showed the exchange leading to her arrest after she allegedly made false police claims against him.
The video resurfaced years later and spread across social media, as reported by Atlanta Black Star. Belcher faced charges of third-degree assault and battery along with possession of marijuana. The footage captured a heated verbal exchange recorded on a cellphone.
The confrontation started at a Rent Me Superstore in Myrtle Beach, where Belcher allegedly made a racist outburst at work. Jermarro Dantzler later confronted her and showed the recorded video to management. She was fired after the incident was reviewed.
In the video, Belcher is heard repeatedly shouting racial slurs during the argument with Dantzler. The situation escalated when she spat directly at him. Dantzler responded with a single slap, while the confrontation continued.
South Carolina law classifies spitting on another person as assault and battery. After the encounter, Belcher called police and claimed Dantzler assaulted her, stole her phone and purse, and left on a motorcycle.
Police later stopped Dantzler while he was riding his motorcycle and detained him. He told officers about the cellphone video before charges moved forward. The footage supported his account and challenged the accusations made against him.
Dantzler later said the recording played a key role in preventing a wrongful arrest. The video has since resurfaced as an Instagram Reel, bringing renewed attention to the 2015 case years after it originally happened.
