Nationwide — A Black male and two females who traveled to Mexico to celebrate the Day of the Dead were reportedly found dead in an Airbnb they rented. Authorities believe that the three died due to carbon monoxide poisoning.High school friends Kandace Florence and Jordan Marshall, who were both 28 years old from Virginia Beach, were reportedly staying at an Airbnb with Marshall’s friend, Courtez Hall, who was 33 years old from New Orleans. They were vacationing in Mexico for the annual Dia de Los Muertos which is held every November.
On October 30, Kandace told her boyfriend that she wasn’t feeling well during their phone call. She then started to get sick and the call got disconnected. Her boyfriend couldn’t reach her after that so he contacted the Airbnb host to ask to check on them. Authorities then found all of them dead.
Their families have since been in contact with the US embassy to get their bodies home and find out what really happened to them. They said they have yet been informed about the cause of their mysterious death.
“The Mexican police were not very forthcoming with information,” Jordan’s mother told WTKR. “Also, the language barrier was incredibly difficult as well.”
Meanwhile, an official cause of death is currently under investigation. The Mexico City Attorney General’s office said studies indicated the victims died of an apparent carbon monoxide poisoning according to Reuters.
