Nationwide — Trevius Warren, a 30-year-old man, and a 17-year-old teen were arrested after a traffic stop turned violent in South Carolina. Police reportedly stopped Warren’s car for running a red light, and the teen attempted to fight deputies and grab a gun.According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD), a deputy stopped Warren’s black Chevrolet Malibu around 2 a.m. on November 27 for running a red light. During the stop, the deputy noticed the 17-year-old passenger reaching into his waistband, prompting a search for weapons, as reported by WISTV.

As deputies attempted to search the teen who was then handcuffed, he fought back. He hit one officer in the face and caused minor injuries. In the struggle, the teen managed to grab a gun from his waistband, which led to a fight over the weapon.

Additional deputies arrived and secured the gun, which was later found to have two different stolen serial numbers. Both guns found during the incident were reported stolen from Newport News Police Department in Virginia.

The teen faces charges of assault, possession of a stolen firearm, and simple possession of marijuana. Warren was charged with possession of a schedule I controlled substance and taken to jail. Both suspects were booked into separate detention centers.
