Will Smith Drops First Album in 19 Years Called “Based on a True Story”

Nationwide — Will Smith is making his music comeback with Based on a True Story, his first album in nearly two decades, set to release on March 28th. The 14-track project includes collaborations with DJ Jazzy Jeff, Teyana Taylor, and Jac Ross, blending nostalgia with fresh storytelling.Smith has been teasing the album with singles like First Love, Beautiful Scars, and TANTRUM. His latest track You Can Make It, featuring Fridayy and Sunday Service Choir, recently reached No. 1 on the Billboard Gospel Airplay Chart. This marks his first chart-topping song since Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It in 1998, according to Essence.

To build excitement, Smith embraced TikTok trends. On March 14th, he recreated a classic Fresh Prince of Bel-Air scene with Tatyana Ali, joining the viral “Anxiety” dance trend. The video, featuring artist Doechii, gave fans a mix of nostalgia and modern energy.
