Wu-Tang Clan Co-Founder Oliver “Power” Grant Dies at Age 52

Nationwide — Wu-Tang Clan co-founder and cultural architect Oliver “Power” Grant has sadly passed away at age 52. He was known for building the group’s business empire and creating the iconic Wu Wear clothing line, leaving a lasting mark on music, fashion, and film.

Grant, called “Power” by friends and collaborators, played a key role in Wu-Tang’s rise in the 1990s. Though he wasn’t a performing member, he helped the group secure studio access, funding, and critical business deals as they prepared to release Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) in 1993.

Method Man confirmed Grant’s passing on Instagram, sharing a heartfelt tribute and photos of their time together on films like Belly (1998) and Black and White (1999). “Paradise my Brother safe Travels!! #pookie #power,” he wrote, according to WBLS.

Beyond music, Grant founded Wu Wear, one of the first artist-led streetwear brands in hip-hop. The label expanded into a global business, with stores in New York and Los Angeles and nationwide retail distribution, generating tens of millions annually and influencing hip-hop fashion for decades.

He also served as manager and executive producer on Wu-Tang projects, guiding the group through touring, film, and merchandise. Even amid internal disputes and legal battles, Grant remained a steady force behind the scenes.

His work showed that hip-hop’s business side could be as powerful as its music. Grant’s vision turned Wu-Tang into a lasting enterprise and inspired generations of artist-led ventures.
