Nationwide — Zuri Dixon, a 4-year-old African American girl from Atlanta, Georgia, has sadly died after being stabbed during a domestic dispute at an apartment complex. Her father, Rashad Dixon, 34, has been arrested and charged in connection with her death.
According to Fox 5 News, Atlanta police said officers responded late Saturday night to a reported fight at an apartment on Alison Court SW. When they arrived, they found the door locked and had to enter through a window. Inside, they saw a man holding the injured child.
Officers used de-escalation tactics to separate the child from the man. Medics rushed Zuri to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta – Hughes Spalding Hospital. Despite their efforts, she later died from multiple lacerations.
Authorities confirmed the suspect is Zuri’s father. He faces several charges, including murder, aggravated assault, cruelty to children, possession of a knife during a felony, and false imprisonment. Dixon was taken into custody and treated for injuries sustained during the incident.
Neighbors described the scene as shocking and heartbreaking. Some recalled hearing a commotion and a child screaming before police arrived. Others said they knew Zuri’s mother from previous experiences with domestic violence.
“I was very heartbroken,” a neighbor said. “I feel like once you put your hands on a child, that’s the lowest of the low, and especially for a child that has been asked to be in the world.”
A GoFundMe page was created to support the family with the unexpected costs of the funeral and memorial services. It has so far raised nearly $8,000.
Investigators are still working to clarify the events that led to the stabbing. Authorities have not released the official cause of death or full details of the family’s circumstances.
