Newark, NJ (BlackNews.com) — With an official welcome to the City of Newark from Honorable Mayor Ras Baraka, more than 450 women filled the room at the Prudential Tower on March 28. They were from diverse backgrounds in culture, ethnicity and careers. Dee C. Marshall, CEO of Diverse and Engaged, LLC., partnered with Prudential, RWJBarnabas, L3 Technologies, Dfree, LaunchPad and Whole Foods, to host the 8th annual Win Rock & Rule professional development, networking and empowerment event.

Marshall said her heart is to motivate women to rise so “we can all go to the top together.” The event was a call to action for women to take a stand, which was why the theme this year was #AllRise. “We were charged to take the stand for something that we are deeply passionate about it… in our workplace, community, culture or for a cause. When we all rise, we are taking the ranking authority spaces in our careers, businesses and lives,” said Marshall. Hashtags used during the event: #WinRockRule and #PruEmpowers trended on Twitter showcasing myriad selfies, group photos, quotes and live streams.

The inspired action of the evening was when the women in the room donated to BlackFem, Inc., a 501(C)(3) non-profit, wealth and financial literacy organization designed for girls as young as 3 years old to women up to adulthood. With the mission to empower women and girls of color to build and sustain wealth, the organization is empowering females to create financial stability and sustainability. “One by one, we are correcting the extreme resource deficiency that characterizes this demographic,” said Chloe McKenzie, the founder and director of BlackFem, Inc.

Marshall is known as a mobilizer and fire starter. “It’s nice to get together and network and get career advice, etc. – but it’s even more powerful to build legacy. That’s why this year our collective call-to-action was directed to support BlackFem, Inc. So far, we have raised more than $7,300 to adopt ten schools in Newark; this is our way to empower generations behind us,” said Marshall.

In 2017, Marshall was named Top 25 Leading Women Entrepreneurs and just named 2018 Top 25 Influential Black Women in Business by The Network Journal. She was also the March cover story on Speakers Magazine.

Marshall adds, “It is always my intention to facilitate electric conversations and new models of thought that help women understand their power is within themselves to win, rock and rule. The possibilities are endless when you’re in a room of high-achievers who are open and sharing with one another. It’s a time of celebration and collaboration. My goal is to teach women to own their light and understand that they are brilliant, beautiful, fierce and intelligent.”
