3 Young History-Making Brothers Honor Those Who Made Black History

Founders of the FB Candle Company

Nationwide — 14-year old Collin, 11-year old Ryan, and 9-year old Austin Gill made history in 2019 by being the first youth entrepreneurs accepted into The Workshop at Macy’s program. The FB Candle Company (also known as Frères Branchiaux Candle Co) candles and linen sprays can be found on Macy’s online as well as 50 plus boutiques, wineries, yoga studios, museum gift shops, and hospital gift shops nationally and internationally. They also secured exclusive partnerships with the Thompson DC Hotel and the iconic Mayflower Hotel. In addition to expanding their brand, the brothers were featured in the Washington Post, Good Morning America, and CBS Evening News.

Through word of mouth, live vending events, and retail exposure, the Gills have built their home fragrance brand to a six figure family business. While the business may have started as a fund for extra toy and video game money, it has transformed into a mission to help prevent homelessness across the nation. The brothers donate 10% of their net profits to homeless shelters — totaling close to $15,000 in donations. Because of their philanthropic efforts, they were awarded the 2019 DC Chamber of Commerce Youth Entrepreneur of the Year award, Role Model Award, Best of DC, Youth who Make a Difference Award, and Excel Youth Mentoring Youth Entrepreneur of the Year finalist.

Inspired by African American STEM trailblazers, the brothers decided to create a set of limited edition candles honoring innovators in Black History: inventor Dr. Lonnie Johnson, robotics engineer Silas Adekunle, rocket scientist Annie Easley, and NASA pioneer Dr. Christine Darden. These candles highlight the efforts of these STEM pioneers to encourage and inspire youth to explore STEM careers.

As the Gill brothers become expert candle scientists, they have also become youth STEM trailblazers aiming to show other youth that success is possible at any age. The limited edition STEM candles can be found on their website at www.fbcandle.com.
