Nationwide — Attorney Tony Buzbee who is representing multiple accusers of Diddy is countering Jay-Z and his team’s misconduct allegations by describing their request for sanctions as “frivolous.” He asserts that Jay-Z is attempting to intimidate both his client and himself.
Buzbee claims that Jay-Z’s team is using a simple factual dispute to undermine his client’s rape allegations and that Jay-Z’s threats against him are another example of “bullying.”
In a succinct letter within his filing, Buzbee states that Jay-Z, like Diddy, is wealthy and influential and is willing to use any means necessary to intimidate and harass him, his client, and anyone else who might expose Jay-Z for alleged misconduct.
Buzbee emphasizes that the law applies equally to everyone, including high-profile individuals like Jay-Z, and urges the court not to impose sanctions.
Previously, Jay-Z’s motion, filed by attorney Alex Spiro, argued that an NBC News report revealed significant flaws in the lawsuit brought by Jay-Z’s accuser, thereby questioning Buzbee’s conduct.
The case involves an anonymous woman who alleges that Jay-Z and Diddy raped her at an MTV Video Music Awards after-party in 2000. However, her recollection of the events appears inconsistent with photographs taken after the awards show. Moreover, the accuser has admitted to having holes and mistakes in her account, which Jay-Z’s legal team cites to challenge the validity of her claims.
Jay-Z’s legal team contended that Buzbee did not sufficiently fact-check his client’s story, which was his responsibility.
When contacted about Buzbee’s filing, Spiro responded, “When it became clear to everyone that this case is a total sham, this lawyer who did not properly vet this claim promised to polygraph his client—where are the polygraph results?”
