Man Accused of Hiding Missing Girlfriend’s Body Behind Newly Built Wall in His Home

Devontae Gray and his girlfriend, Alexis Schuler

Nationwide — Alexis Schuler, a 29-year-old African American mom from Capitol Heights, Maryland, was found dead behind a wall in her boyfriend’s home after going missing. Devontae Gray, charged with her murder, allegedly hid her body in a makeshift tomb.

Schuler was last seen in Washington on January 10th but wasn’t reported missing until the following Tuesday. Police allege that Gray, her 30-year-old boyfriend and father to one of her children, killed her during an argument.

Gray reportedly shot Schuler, placed her body in a plastic storage bin, encased it with cinder blocks and concrete, and hid it behind a newly built wall under a stairway in his Capitol Heights home.

The couple had a history of domestic violence, with Gray previously reporting to police that he feared for his safety from Schuler. However, her cousin, Derrick Felder, insists Schuler was the true victim, emphasizing the seriousness of domestic violence.

“Alexis’ story is a painful reminder this is not what love looks like. Someone who truly loves you would never do what Devontae Gray did to her. Please take domestic violence seriously,” he told WLBT.

Gray was arrested, confessed to the murder, and now faces charges of first-degree murder among other offenses.
