Texas Teen, Parents Die in Car Crash While on Their Way to College Move-In Day

Andril Arvind

Nationwide — 17-year-old Andril Arvind and her parents, tragically lost their lives in a crash while on their way to her college move-in day at the University of Texas at Dallas on August 14th. The accident occurred at approximately 5:45 a.m. on U.S. Route 281, about six miles north of Lampasas. Responding to the scene, state troopers found two vehicles involved in a deadly collision: a 2004 Cadillac CTS and a 2024 Kia Telluride.

According to WLBT, the Cadillac, driven by 31-year-old Jacinto Gudino Duran from Copperas Cove, was traveling southbound, while the Kia, driven by 45-year-old Mani Arvind of Leander, was heading northbound. Investigators determined that a blowout of the right rear tire on the Cadillac caused Duran to lose control of the vehicle. Witnesses reported seeing the Cadillac speeding before it veered into the opposite lane.

As the Cadillac crossed into oncoming traffic, it collided with the Kia, leading to a catastrophic impact that severely damaged both vehicles. The passengers in the Cadillac were identified as 23-year-old Yosilu Gasman Martinez-Lopez, also from Copperas Cove. In the Kia, two passengers were present: Pradeepa Arvind and his teen daughter, Andril, who were on their way to her college move-in day.

Tragically, all five individuals in the two vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene. The loss has devastated the families and communities involved, particularly as it has left 14-year-old Adiryan Arvind as the sole surviving member of the Arvind family.

In the wake of this tragedy, a GoFundMe page was launched to support Adiryan, who recently began ninth grade and is now facing life without his immediate family. The Arvinds were en route to the University of Texas at Dallas to assist Andril with her move-in when the accident occurred.

The page has garnered significant support, raising over $840,000 over the weekend, providing some financial relief for Adiryan as he navigates this unimaginable loss.
