Black DoorDash Driver Tased By Police After Asking For a Supervisor. He Was Unarmed

Nationwide — Delane Gordon, a DoorDash driver from Collegedale, Tennessee, was reportedly tased with a stun gun by a white police officer during a traffic stop after he “politely” asked to speak to his supervisor.

On March 10th, Gordon was making a delivery when he was pulled over by a police officer for speeding. The officer, who has not been identified, then asked for his license, insurance, and registration but Gordon claimed he wasn’t speeding and asked to see on the radar when he speeded, according to an affidavit.

Gordon started to record the incident when he realized their exchange became heated and he asked to speak to his supervisor. The video showed the situation escalated when the officer demanded Gordon, who can be seen holding his driver’s license, to get out of the car.

“Sir, I feel uncomfortable,” Gordon can be heard saying in the video. “Please get your supervisor.”

However, the officer continued to force him out of the car. He then pulled out his Taser and used it on Gordon, who screamed in pain. The video stopped when he was gotten out of the car.

After the incident, Gordon was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct aside from speeding. He was booked and was released after posting bond.

Gordon’s attorney Ryan Wheeler released the video with the aim to “spark conversation in the community” and “raise awareness” on how police tend to deal with such incidents, according to ABC News.

“Simply asking, ‘Hey, can you explain to me why I’m being pulled over?’ or any exchange of that nature shouldn’t be met with immediate escalation, shouldn’t be met with, I guess, an officer interpreting that exchange as a challenge to his authority,” Wheeler said. “That speaks to the temperament and mentality of an officer.”
