HBCU Scholar/ Educator of 24 Years Releases Newly Revised Guide on How to Build Better Relationships

Dr. Troya Bishop, author of Answers to Intimacy book

Nationwide — Married? Single? “It’s complicated.”? Not speaking to a relative or a former friend or two? If relationship drama has become a recurring theme, Dr. Troya Bishop, an Atlanta-based educator and researcher has written a powerful guide designed to help people trade confusion for clarity, and conflict for connection.

She has been an educator for almost 25 years, a researcher for almost 10 years, and she is also the proud mom of her 22-year-old daughter who is following a similar path as an HBCU student at Grambling State University.

In her newly revised book and workbook, The Answers to Intimacy: Creating Unbreakable Connections, Dr. Bishop provides practical strategies to help adults build deeper, healthier, and more meaningful relationships. With a balance of insight and real-world application, the book addresses a question many people are asking: How do we actually make relationships work?

As an educator, advocate, and Executive Director of the Parental Empowerment Institute (PEI), Dr. Bishop has spent years supporting individuals and families through complex relational challenges. “I’m often asked how to navigate relationships and how to keep them together,” she explains. “This book brings those answers together in a way that’s practical, honest, and hopefully a lot less painful than trial and error.”

Drawing on insights from her previous publications, professional experience, and current research, Dr. Bishop developed this book and companion workbook in response to a growing need. At a time when disconnection is common and “cutting people off” has become the norm, this guide offers a different approach: understanding, healing, and rebuilding relationships with intention.

Designed for individuals, couples, and families, the book explores how trauma, emotional intelligence, and communication patterns shape our closest connections. Through guided reflection exercises and actionable strategies, readers will learn how to: recognize and break unhealthy relationship patterns, improve communication and emotional awareness, build trust and strengthen intimacy, and create more secure, long-lasting connections.

Adding a unique creative element, the eBook also features an original musical track titled “Unbreakable,” produced by award-winning Billboard producer Sam Peezy. The track includes performances by Eric Bell—a New Orleans artist turned Girls Basketball Coach of the Year and Alabama Kenny, alongside Sam Peezy himself.

Reflecting on the impact of Dr. Bishop’s work, Peezy shares, “If you haven’t read one of Troya’s books yet, you might be making relationships harder than they need to be. Her work helped me personally, and it showed up in every relationship in my life.”
