Former Kansas City Detective Accused of Abusing Black Women Found Dead Before Trial

Robert Golubski

Nationwide — After decades of waiting, at least ten African American women in Kansas City who were allegedly sexually assaulted by former detective Robert Golubski will never see justice in his criminal trial. Golubski, now 71 years old, was found dead of a gunshot wound at his home in an apparent suicide just before his trial was set to begin.

Golubski, a former detective, was under house arrest and awaiting trial for charges stemming from allegations of sexual abuse dating back to the 1990s, according to CBS 42. One woman claimed Golubski abused her since she was in middle school, while another said he assaulted her after arresting her sons.

Prosecutors revealed that even more women were prepared to testify against him, but the case ended abruptly when Golubski was found dead.

For years, Golubski was notorious for targeting Black women in underserved neighborhoods. He allegedly used his authority as a police officer to demand sexual favors, threatening retaliation if they didn’t comply. His name was also linked to multiple unsolved murders of Black women between 1980 and 2004.

These allegations came to light after Golubski was involved in a case where he wrongfully framed Lamonte McIntyre for a murder he didn’t commit. This led to charges of civil rights violations against Golubski, but he pleaded not guilty.

Golubski’s sudden death has left many questions unanswered and the charges against him dismissed. U.S. District Judge Toby Crouse said a second criminal case involving 3 co-defendants is still pending.
