Woman Will Not Be Charged for Car Accident That Killed a 6-Year-Old Boy

Kenyunte W. Goss

Nationwide — Kenyunte Goss, an African American woman from Memphis, Tennessee, who was arrested after a six-year-old boy was killed in a car accident, has had all charges against her dropped. Authorities say the decision came after reviewing the circumstances of the crash.

The accident happened last Thursday at the intersection of Signal Street and Whitney Avenue. Police said Goss was driving west on Whitney Avenue when her Chrysler 200 struck the boy, who had entered the street while playing basketball.

Surveillance footage shows the child dropping the ball and kicking it into the road just before the collision. Goss remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, according to WREG.

The boy was rushed to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. His death shocked the local community and sparked attention online.

Goss initially faced misdemeanor charges for driving with a suspended, revoked, or canceled license and for failing to maintain financial responsibility. During a Monday hearing, all charges were officially dismissed less than a week after her arrest. Officials did not release further details on the ruling.
