Texas Rapper and His 5-Year-Old Daughter Gunned Down at Car Wash

Rapper Lil Ronnie with his daughter

Nationwide — A tragic shooting at a car wash in Forest Hill, Texas, on Monday claimed the lives of Ronnie Smith, a 30-year-old local rapper known as G$ Lil Ronnie, and his 5-year-old daughter, R’Mani. The shooting occurred around 10:45 a.m. at Slappy’s Express Car Wash on Forest Hill Drive. According to People, Smith and his daughter were in their vehicle when two suspects in a white four-door Kia approached and opened fire before speeding away. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The incident has left the community in shock, with family members mourning the loss and authorities actively investigating.

Family members revealed that R’Mani had just celebrated her 5th birthday the day before the shooting, making the tragedy even more devastating. Stella Houston, Smith’s aunt, shared that he had been cleaning out his car when the suspects opened fire. “He was just cleaning the car out, and somebody came through shooting and killed him and the baby,” she said. The violent attack has raised concerns in the area, as Smith was described as a devoted father and an artist who had no known enemies.

Loved ones gathered near the crime scene throughout the day, grieving and demanding justice. Many who knew Smith spoke highly of his character, emphasizing that he was a family man who focused on his music career and avoided trouble. “He didn’t target anyone. He was a family man and was just going around rapping,” Houston added. “Why would anyone target him? And his baby?” The senseless nature of the crime has left the community searching for answers.

Police confirmed that they have identified one suspect in connection with the shooting but have not yet released a name. A warrant has been issued for Capital Murder as authorities work to locate the individual. Investigators also noted that the city of Forest Hill did not record a single homicide in all of last year. However, following this incident, the total number of homicides in the city has now risen to five in 2025.

The rise in gun violence has left many residents feeling uneasy. “You just have to be careful out here, watch your step. It’s crazy out here,” said Randy Owens, a Forest Hill resident. “You’re not safe anywhere; you just have to pick your spots, you know what I’m saying?” Many community members echoed similar concerns, expressing frustration over the violence affecting their neighborhoods.

Slappy’s Express Car Wash, where the shooting took place, released a statement expressing its shock and sadness over the incident. As a precaution, the business announced it would remain closed for at least two days while the investigation continues. Meanwhile, Smith’s family and friends continue to grieve, hoping that justice will soon be served for both him and his young daughter.
