Nationwide — Russell Wilson, a 36-year-old Super Bowl-winning quarterback and 10-time Pro Bowl selection, has agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $21 million with the New York Giants, including $10.5 million guaranteed. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Wilson chose the Giants over the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers, returning to the site of his Super Bowl XLVIII victory at MetLife Stadium—this time as the projected starting quarterback for New York.
Despite the addition of Wilson, the Giants may still be in the market for a long-term quarterback. The team holds the No. 3 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, and co-owner John Mara previously stated that securing a future franchise quarterback remains the team’s top priority. None of the current quarterbacks on the roster—Wilson, Winston, or DeVito—are under long-term contracts, leaving the door open for a rookie addition.
Wilson’s path back to New York was years in the making. He reportedly expressed interest in joining the Giants during the previous offseason, but the team opted to give Daniel Jones another chance. Jones, however, was eventually benched and released after a disappointing start. Wilson instead signed a short-term deal with the Steelers, where he posted a 6-5 record as a starter, despite battling a calf injury and ending the season on a five-game losing streak.
Prior to his brief stint in Pittsburgh, Wilson spent two seasons with the Denver Broncos after being traded by the Seattle Seahawks in a blockbuster deal. The Broncos signed him to a five-year, $242.6 million contract, but after a disappointing 11-19 record and no playoff appearances, Denver released him in 2024—absorbing more than $85 million in dead money.
Over his 13-year career, Wilson has amassed 46,135 passing yards, 350 touchdown passes, and 111 interceptions with a 64.7% completion rate. His most iconic achievement remains leading the Seahawks to a dominant Super Bowl XLVIII win, throwing two touchdown passes in the victory that took place at MetLife Stadium—his new home field once again.
Meanwhile, as the news was announced about Wilson’s new team, his wife, Ciara, revealed exciting news of her own. She made an Instagram post about her “Ten To One Rum” line of which she is the co-owner, sharing a photo of herself with her partners on the board.
