Whoopi Goldberg’s New Documentary to Explore Her Life and Legacy

Whoopi Goldberg documentary

Nationwide — Whoopi Goldberg is set to star in a new documentary that offers an intimate look at her life, career, and family. The film will weave together archival footage, personal materials, and her own words to tell her story from multiple perspectives.

The documentary, described as the “definitive” look at Goldberg, will expand on her autobiography, Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother and Me. Filmmaker Geeta Gandbhir, who earned two Academy Award nominations this year for different documentaries, is set to direct, according to Deadline.

The documentary will follow Goldberg as she reflects on her 1984 Broadway debut, The Whoopi Monologues, her current theater projects, family life, and time in Italy. It aims to reveal the thoughtful, private side of Goldberg behind the bold, trailblazing persona audiences know.

Gandbhir praised Goldberg as a “brilliant and groundbreaking storyteller” and praised the team bringing the project to life. Producers include Sam Pollard, Alisa Payne, and Goldberg’s longtime partner Tom Leonardis.

Production is led by Imagine Documentaries, known for acclaimed films like Music by John Williams and Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything, in partnership with Message Pictures and Goldberg’s One Hoe Productions. Meanwhile, Goldberg is also preparing for Sister Act 3, continuing her iconic franchise career.
