Meet the 911 Dispatcher Who Helped a Boy Who Needed Help With a Homework Emergency

Lafayette, IN — Antonia Bundy, a 23-year old 911 dispatcher for the Lafayette Police Department in Indiana, is getting a lot of publicity after she recently helping a young boy who called 911 for having “a really bad day” at school with his math homework.

On a Twitter post by the Lafayette Police Department, they shared a recording of the call where Bundy “helped a young boy out and brightened his day.”

At the start of the call, the boy, who has not been identified, can be heard saying that he “had a really bad day” apparently because he had “tons of homework.”

Bundy decided to stay on the line and asked the boy what particular subject he was struggling with. He replied, “Math, and it’s so hard.”

The boy said he was having trouble with the equation three-fourths plus one-fourth. Bundy patiently helped him solve it and after a while, he got the correct answer: one.

“I’m sorry for calling you, but I really needed help,” the boy could be heard saying after understanding the answer.

“That’s okay, we’re always here to help,” Bundy said before the boy hung up.

Although the police department doesn’t encourage calling 911 for nonemergency help such as homework, the time when the boy called was reportedly not as busy as usual in the dispatch center.

“That day there happened to be five dispatchers working at the same time, and only two dispatchers were taking calls,” Matt Gard, a sergeant at the police department, told BuzzFeed News. “Had other emergency calls come in, we had other dispatchers available to taking calls.”
