Nationwide — Dylan Shakespeare Robinson, a 23-year old man from Minneapolis who was caught starting a fire at a police station during a Black Lives Matter protest after the death of George Floyd, has been sentenced to only 4 years in prison.
According to the investigation, Robinson was caught in surveillance footage wherein he appears to light an incendiary device. In a Snapchat video, someone can also be heard calling his name and later on commented on the video, “We need more gasoline.”
However, Robinson’s lawyer said he was disappointed at the sentence, saying his client was not alone in the incident.
“He is bearing the sentence for the other thousand people who participated,” Robinson’s lawyer William J. Mauzy claimed, according to the New York Times. “Many others, far more culpable than Mr. Robinson, were not identified. He had no role in throwing any Molotov cocktails or constructing any or building any.”
Robinson was captured along with three other men who also pleaded guilty to participating in the arson. Their sentence is still pending.
