One of the Food Industry’s Few Black CEOs Launches New Brand to Make Healthy Baking Easy and Raise Money For Underserved Communities

Mario West

Nationwide — Mario West, the founder and CEO of West Food Brands, is on a mission to cultivate sustainable food products, make nutritious desserts as delicious as possible, and diversify the health industry. Since creating his business last year, West has already become the first ever black donut mix creator in the world, developed two desserts to bake at home, and invested in profit-sharing programs to donate a percentage of gross sales to underserved communities.

West was inspired at an early age by Wally Amos, one of the first Black CEOs in history and creator of the cookie brand Famous Amos. With so few leaders of color in the food industry, West felt it was important to diversify retail shelves while innovating new methods of healthy eating.

“I started West Food Brands because growing up, most of my family struggled with high blood pressure and cholesterol,” says Mario. “I’m on a mission to create healthy food that positively impacts people’s lives, drive representation in a historically white industry, and inspire revolutionary change to our relationship with food.”

West’s products are the first of their kind, effortlessly healthy, and easy to make. Made from nutritious ingredients like Sweet Potatoes with Gluten-Free alternatives, West’s innovations are using the latest developments in food science to ensure diverse consumers have access to healthy options.

“I’ve spoken to countless food scientists to learn as much about food science and nutrition as possible, and as times continue to change, I plan to continue creating important solutions for future generations,” says West.
