Houston, TX — Micheal Brown, a 17-year old high school senior, applied for scholarships to 20 of the best universities in the US. Every one of those 20 prestigious universities offered him a full ride and $260,000 in additional scholarship offers.
The senior student from Mirabeau B. Lamar High School has always been excelled in his studies. In fact, throughout his whole academic career, he only got one B.
Brown is also greatly involved in extracurricular activities such as his school’s debate team, Key Club, Young Democrats, 100 Black Men of Houston, among many others.
His mom, Berthinia Rutledge-Brown, is one of his biggest supporters. She was there with him and his friends when he opened the last four admission letters that would seal his 20-scholarship streak.
He is looking to study political science and also considers a second degree in economics.
Not only is he happy for his own accomplishments. He is also hoping that this would inspire other young students especially those who come from less-than-ideal backgrounds.
“Be helpful. Dream big. Don’t be afraid,” Brown said. “Be proud of your family, love yourself, love your community and then share your story. Inspire other people to really reach for the stars and achieve their dreams.”
Micheal has yet to decide which college to go to. He will tour different schools and has until May 1 to make the final choice.
