Presenter Shares Excitement for the Doing Business in Africa & the Caribbean Symposium

The event will take place at the African Union Mission in Washington D.C.

Washington, DC — His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Siad Douale of Djibouti, one of the confirmed presenters at the Doing Business in Africa & the Caribbean Symposium, is delighted to attend the event and shares why investors, businesspeople and entrepreneurs should as well.

“It would offer an opportunity to collect reliable and updated information on investment opportunities in Africa,” Ambassador Douale said. “Information is sparse, and when available it is often difficult to identify who does what in the economic sphere.”

The Doing Business in Africa & the Caribbean Symposium will be held June 19-20, 2019 at the African Union Mission, 1640 Wisconsin Ave., N.W. “We wanted to create a way to connect investors and businesspeople in the U.S. with ripe opportunities in Africa and the Caribbean for development and investment,” says Earl Reddix, an African Business Consultant and co-founder of the event.

Ambassador Douale shared why those in North America, especially Diasporans, should visit and invest in Africa: “Generally, there is tremendous good will toward American investors in Africa. This is also very true as far as African American businesses are concerned. Opportunities in Africa are not documented as they should. Similarly, the story of African American entrepreneurship is not known at all. It will provide the Diasporans an occasion to fill that gap while generating wealth and growth for Africans and contributing to America’s economic and social growth.”

Event moderator, author and world scholar Akbar Muhammad said attendees can expect to hear about areas ready for investment such as farming and mining.

“They will learn a lot about Africa and the Caribbean and the importance of Africans in the diaspora, especially those who ended up in America through the slave trade or in the Caribbean,” Muhammad said. “So it’s important to listen to the African and Caribbean Ambassadors, leaders, Presidents or Vice Presidents who will attend to listen to their projection; in terms of its opportunities and how they can be helpful to Africa and the Caribbean and how it can benefit them.”

Ambassador Douale said he plans “to share some data on Africa’s economic potential and in particular Djibouti’s ambition to serve as a maritime, transportation and logistics hub as well as the potential of Djibouti as a tourist destination.”

Additional confirmed presenters at the symposium include ambassadors and/or representatives from the Bahamas, Cote d’Ivoire, Guyana, Jamaica, Madagascar, Mauritius, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

When asked what he hopes to gain from participating in the DBIAC Symposium, Ambassador Douale said, “I am hoping that the symposium will enhance my understanding on how to boost trade investment promotion from the United States to Africa. I also hope to get some specific and concrete ideas on efforts to spur private sector investment from the United States to Africa. Africa will account for the 80% of the projected 4 billion increase in the global population by 2100. In Africa, we are endeavoring to translate this opportunity into economic growth. We believe there is ample opportunity for U.S. businesses to access African markets and tap into the potential of a growing consumer base.”
