Nationwide — Skylar Herbert, a 5-year old girl from Detroit has reportedly died from the coronavirus. She is the first child in the state of Michigan to die from the virus, and therefore also the youngest victim.

According to Detroit News, Skylar tested positive for COVID-19 in March. She initially complained to her parents about having extremely painful headaches. After a doctor’s checkup, it was determined that she had strep throat, and she was sent home with a prescription for antibiotics.

The headaches continued, however, and Skylar ended up at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital where she tested postive for the virus. She also later developed brain swelling and a rare form of meningitis.

Sadly, she passed away on Sunday. She had been on a ventilator for two weeks.

Skylar’s mom is reportedly a Detroit police officer, and her dad is a firefighter.

As of April 20th, more than 30,000 coronavirus infections in the state of Michigan have been confirmed, and 2,391 have died.
