Author Releases New Children’s Book Featuring Black Princess From the Caribbean

Every Little Girl Deserves To Feel Like A Princess

Eldonie Mason, author of Adventures of Princess Anyah of Antibarba

Nationwide — Entertainment, business and fashion attorney, and entrepreneur, Eldonie Mason has released her first children’s book featuring a Black princess from the Caribbean. Mason, a native of the Caribbean Island of Antigua, came up with the idea for The Adventures of Princess Anyah of Antibarba: The Fishing Expedition when her 5-year-old niece told her she could not be a princess because all princesses are white and have long hair.

“My heart broke in that moment and I wanted to cry,” said Eldonie. “I knew I could no longer sit idly by while my niece and other little girls like her felt they were not worthy to be a princess. Every little girl deserves to feel like a princess.”

What started as a story to cheer up Mason’s niece, is now a globally available children’s book that can be found on online retailers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

“Representation matters and if little girls like my niece can see themselves as princesses, then they will not feel less than,” the author commented.

About the book
The Adventures of Princess Anyah of Antibarba: The Fishing Expedition is about Princess Anyah, a fun-loving, six-year-old who lives with her family in a palace on the tropical island of Antibarba located in the Caribbean. In Book 1, she goes on her first big adventure, a fishing expedition, with her dad, King Ananda. Who will catch the most fish?
