Mujey Dumbuya
Kalamazoo, MI — Mujey Dumbuya, a 16-year-old girl, was about to testify against her rapist but she was found dead on the side of the road half-naked. Officials say she was killed by strangulation.
She was set to testify in a sexual assault trial scheduled in April. The defendant on that trial, Quinn Anthony James, is also the person of interest in Dumbuya’s death.
Dumbuya, an East Kentwood High student, was 15 last summer when she was allegedly forced to have sex multiple times in different locations. She then identified the man as Quinn Anthony James, a former grounds and maintenance worker at Kentwood Public Schools.
Court records reveal that James, 42 years old, has an extensive criminal history and is a habitual offender.
On February 1, he was arrested in connection with another rape case reported by another teenage girl in 2014.
James is now being held at the Kent County Jail on a $500,000 bond for a rape case not related to Dumbuya’s sexual assault and homicide cases.
Furthermore, after hearing witness accounts on Dumbuya’s sexual assault case, the Kentwood District Court Judge William Kelly decided on March 21 to order James to trial on four counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
