Nationwide — Diamond Reynolds, the woman who live-streamed on Facebook the bloody aftermath of last year’s police shooting of her boyfriend, Philando Castile, will receive an $800,000 settlement from the city of St. Anthony, Minnesota.
The settlement includes $675,000 from the city of St. Anthony as well as $125,000 from the nearby city of Roseville and an insurance fund. The mayor of St. Anthony, Jerry Faust, released a statement to the media saying that the agreement “opens the door to continued healing within our community.”
Meanwhile, Diamond herself has spoken out saying that the settlement confirms that what she experienced that night “was wrong.” She also told reporters: “While no amount of money can change what happened, bring Philando back, or erase the pain that my daughter and I continue to suffer, I do hope that closing this chapter will allow us to get our lives back and move forward.”
Meanwhile, the police officer who killed Philando will continue to remain free. This past summer, a jury found him not-guilty of manslaughter and dangerous discharge of a weapon.
