Police Say Florida Woman Was Shot and Killed by Toddler While on Zoom Call

Shamaya Lynn

Nationwide — Shamaya Lynn, a 21-year old mother from Almonte Springs, Florida, was killed by her toddler who shot her in the head at her apartment while on a Zoom conference call for work.

A person on the conference call who witnessed the incident dialed 911. She apparently heard a noise and saw Lynn fell backward after a child appeared in the background.

“I don’t know where to begin, but I’m on a live with a company, we just got hired. And one of the girls just passed out. She’s bleeding,” the coworker said in a 911 call, according to ABC News.

A man who identified himself as Lynn’s boyfriend and the father of her two children also called 911 when he came home and found her unconscious and bleeding.

Responding officers and paramedics tried to treat her but she was pronounced dead at the scene due to her injuries.

According to police, a toddler “found an unsecured handgun” that was left in their apartment. Lynn’s boyfriend was handcuffed and questioned as he was the owner of the gun that killed the young mother.

“We do have a responsibility as adults to keep people safe, especially when you own a firearm,” Sgt. Rob Ruiz of the Altamonte Springs Police Department said in a statement.

Detectives are working with the Seminole County State Attorney’s Office to determine if any charges should be filed against the owner of the gun.
